We’re allowed to spoil ourselves

“Students, if able, should spend money on themselves and enjoy life to the fullest.” | Megan Long, PantherNOW

Life shouldn’t be spent behind a computer, wasting away and never having life experiences. It’s an expensive world out there, but it’s worth it.

It’s a struggle to find a job that pays anything more than minimum wage without jeopardizing our academics, so we’re forced to make the most of our buck.

But that shouldn’t stop us from spending our money on things that will enrich us in more ways than a classroom could. There are only so many lessons we can learn when we are tied to the idea of a college education being the only way to make money.

Life happens outside those four walls of a classroom every day, and it’s our job to learn and grow from those moments.

Yes, we need to work hard to achieve our dreams and survive these challenging times, but we also deserve to treat ourselves to what said world has to offer.

Trips can give us experiences that no textbook could. Studying abroad is an amazing opportunity to balance between learning in school and experiences in life.

It’s unrealistic that everybody has the grades or money to study abroad, but many experiences can be just as fulfilling. Things like brunch with friends or new gear for a hobby like pickleball, are small ways you can treat yourself.

I know people work themselves into the ground in school and with their jobs to prepare for their future, but what about their present? There’s no point in being such a hard worker if you can’t reward yourself.

One of the best things we can do for our well being is treating ourselves correctly. Rewarding good behavior, prioritizing yourself and staying on top of your goals are a good thing—so celebrate it in any way you can.

There are so many opportunities that are presented to us to develop into better people. Realizing that these opportunities can be once in a blue moon should drive us to take them whenever we can.

We are all learning and growing as we go. It’s sad to live in a society that normalizes people working their whole lives and never have the chance to truly enjoy themselves—that is what our 20’s are for.

Spoiling yourself can be so simple. All you have to do is take some time for yourself and enjoy what life has to offer.
