The Panthers are itching to make a statement against Southeastern Louisiana as they face the Lions for the first time in program history on Saturday, Sep. 7 at 10 a.m.
After playing its first six games of the season on the road, the FIU women’s soccer team comes into this one with a 3-3 record and a desire to regain some momentum after dropping its last two games against Stetson, 0-1, and the Miami Hurricanes, 0-1.
Despite the score, the Panthers actually registered more total shots and shots on goal than the Hurricanes. This unit’s offense is getting shots off, but credit has to go to Miami’s goalkeeper freshman Gray Willson for finishing with four saves.
The Hurricanes capitalized off one error from FIU to score in the 68th minute and maintained the lead for the rest of the game.
The start of the season hasn’t been consistent for the Panthers as they are still searching for that breakthrough to take that extra step forward.
Southeastern Louisiana is in a similar situation as the team wants to get back in the win column after also dropping its last game to Miami, 4-1.
With a record of 1-2-1, the Lions look to improve on their slow start.
The Panthers will have the next two games, against SLU on Sep. 7 and against Southeast Missouri State on Sep. 12, to prepare for a nine-game stretch in which they will face all teams from their conference.
