October events: celebrating Hispanic Heritage and spooky season!

Fall semester is in full swing as we head into Hispanic Heritage Month and Halloween season!

Here are some October events to keep in mind as students near the halfway point of their classes.

Hispanic Heritage Social Hour: Join the Student Support Services Club for a Hispanic Heritage Social Hour that honors the cultural contributions, diversity, and history of Hispanic and Latinx communities with lively music, conversation, and fun. 

Happening Thursday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m. in SASC 220.

Hispanic Heritage Month Human Library: On Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 12 p.m., engage in one-on-one conversations with “human books”, or individuals from diverse Hispanic and Latinx backgrounds. 

Taking place in GL 220, the event shares unique stories and experiences to create discussion, challenge stereotypes and build connections. 

Students who attend are able to gain insight into the rich cultural heritage and contributions of the Hispanic and Latinx community.

KLEC Short Story Night: The Korean Language Empowerment Club is hosting a Short Story Night on Friday, Oct. 11 at 4:30 p.m. in GC 289. 

Learn new vocabulary and grammar rules from reading traditional Korean folk tales and other Korean short stories. Bring something to take notes with and join in the fun!

Day on the Bay: Volunteer to help clean up the Bay and upkeep the Butterfly Garden in BBC on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 9 a.m.! 

Wear closed-toe shoes and bring reusable water bottles, sunscreen and hats to keep cool in the sun. Check in at the Panther Square to receive community service hours. Lunch will be provided.

Whisky or Whiskey?: Join the Bartenders Guild on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 4:30 p.m. to learn about the history and different styles of whisk(e)y. 

While the event will take place at BBC at HM 129, there will be an option to attend via Zoom.

KCC & KLEC Halloween Night: On Thursday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m., celebrate Halloween with the Korean Culture Club and the Korean Language Empowerment Club! 

Taking place in GC 118, students learn about how Halloween is celebrated in Korea. There will be fun games, goodies, and snacks.

Halloween Celebration: Hosted by the Sino-US Language and Culture Salon, this Halloween celebration encourages students to dress up in costumes and listen to spooky Chinese myths as they are shared amongst an array of Halloween goody bags and games. 

 Happening Friday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. in GC 273A. It is asked that students refrain from wearing overly revealing costumes or masks.
