Hosted by organizations including the Garden Club, Alpha Rho Chi, Geek Culture club, Board Game club, and the Food Recovery Network at FIU, students had a blast with food, board games, and singing on Monday, Oct. 28.

With multiple cosplayers coming for a cosplay competition, the Halloween spirit was vibrant as students showed their cosplays, some even taking over a year to make.

Some cosplays included Jibaro Siren from “Love, Death, and Robots”, a Steampunk girl, the Peashooter and Sunflower in “Plants Versus Zombies”, and much more.

Alexis Quiroz, Vice President of the Garden Club and agroecology major,  spoke about the purpose for this event.

“We want to teach students how to use food sources effectively. The main purpose is to have fun, but also for the culture, we plan to use the pumpkins and the guts collected for composting later on,” Quiroz said.

Students had original and imaginative thinking when it came to the handling of pumpkins with the carving, where they carve the iconic squash into unique designs of their choosing.

Some even made the currently popular meme from TikTok, “dumb ahh pumpkin.”

Mario Delgado, President of the Food Recovery Network at FIU and hospitality major, told PantherNOW why his chapter helped host the event.

“We wanted to support the Garden Club and to promote our future events coming up. We like collaborating and supporting other clubs, and Garden Club helped us a lot of the time, so we wanted to give back.”

The Food Recovery Network is a new club that started last spring, and has a goal to reduce food waste on campus. If you’re interested, find more details in their social media.

The event was dazzling and in high spirits with people singing their hearts out to their favorite songs.

Denise Mendoza, President of the Geek Culture Club and biology major, shared her feelings on the event.

“We recommend people to come next year to have fun and spend the time out. We helped host this event for people to have fun and we will be helping to host next year if possible. We actually collaborated with clubs on a similar event last year.”

Geek culture has two events in the upcoming week, if interested, check out their social media for updates.
