The FIU men’s soccer team advances past No. 4 seed FAU on Friday, Nov. 9, off a stellar defensive performance and a game-winning goal in the 10th minute by senior and team captain Eduardo Mustre in Boca Raton, Florida.
The Panthers were able to keep the Owls – who profiled as the highest scoring team in the conference with 31 goals this season – to zero goals and just six shots.
Historically, the Panthers have performed well against FAU, holding a 15-5-1 all-time record and a 7-3 away record. Still, FIU had lost to this Owl’s squad earlier in the season 2-1.
FIU now advances to face the No. 1 seed Memphis Tigers, who they last faced in their final match of the regular season at home. That match ended in a 2-2 draw which gave the Tigers the regular season championship and home field advantage.
The match is on Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. in Memphis.
