The FIU Men’s Basketball team is set to face off against a familiar foe, the Liberty Flames, on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Heading into their last five games of the season, FIU is on a three-game losing streak, having lost to LA Tech at home and UTEP and NM State on the road.

In these three games, FIU has lost each one by double digits, including a 28-point loss to New Mexico State.

This poor stretch of performances puts the Panthers at a 2-11 conference record and an 8-18 overall record. This puts them last in the C-USA standing going into the final stretch of the season.

These final few games may feel like damage control on a season that has been as poor as it can be. With only one win in their last 11 games, the Panthers should look to focus on what is next for the program.

On the bright side, they have Freshman Guard Ashton Williamson who has been leading the team in assists with 2.8 APG and steals with 1.6 SPG .

The freshman has looked good all season, and has been ramping up his play in the second half of the season.

However, FIU has multiple seniors on the roster, with half the team consisting of seniors, including forward Johnathan Aybar who has been a key piece off the bench for the offense.

Thankfully, star players Junior Guard Jayden Brewer and Junior Center Vianney Salatchoum still have one more year left.

Brewer and Salatchoum have been FIU’s offensive and defensive anchors all season, with Brewer leading the team in points with 14.7 PPG and Salatchoum leading the team in blocks with 2.0 BPG.

Looking to move forward from this season, the FIU Panthers play the Liberty Flames on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Lynchburg, Virginia

Tip Off is set for 2:00 PM and the game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
