The entire month of March is Women’s History Month, which honors the contributions that women have within society.
On Thursday, March 13 at 2 p.m. a virtual Zoom event will be taking place in celebration of Women’s History Month. The event is the Virgil and Joann Smith Thought Leaders Forum Communication Today: Are We Getting the Whole Story?
This has been taking place annually since 2022 and is hosted by The Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication.
The forum will highlight the voices of distinguished women in the field of communication. Attendees of the event have the opportunity to engage in an insightful discussion with keynote speaker Kelley Benham French, Narrative Accountability Editor at The Washington Post.
With French, convener Erika Gonzalez, anchor and reporter at CBS News Miami joins her. These experts will offer insight into issues taking place in communication today.
Some of the issues that these women will tackle in their discussion are media accuracy, the impact of digital information overload, and practical strategies for becoming more informed news consumers.
Carla Zensen, the Program Coordinator for the Kopenhaver Center at CARTA, offered PantherNow more insight on what to expect at the forum.
“Attendees can gain a deeper insight into how journalists uphold integrity in reporting and how media consumers can sharpen their ability to distinguish fact from misinformation. As part of the Kopenhaver Center’s mission to advance women in communication, this conversation also highlights the role of accountability in storytelling and the responsibility we all share in seeking out the full picture.”
In today’s media landscape, the ability to evaluate the information presented is crucial. This event offers a unique experience to gain insight, whilst celebrating women. This is one of the many events that will take place to celebrate Women’s History Month.
