Andres Rodriguez | Staff WriterThe FIU Men’s Basketball team ended its regular season on a three-game losing streak, capped off by an 18-point loss to MTSU. This skid concluded a disappointing stretch for the Panthers, who won just three of their last 18 games, finishing in last place in the C-USA standings. The Panthers entered the C-USA tournament as the tenth seed and faced the seventh-seeded Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, a team they had recently lost to 76-67.Heading into the matchup, FIU was a heavy underdog. Few expected them to pull off a conference tournament upset like they had last year against Jacksonville State. In what could have been their final game of the season, FIU hoped for a miracle, which required standout performances from their top players, junior guard Jayden Brewer and junior center Vianney Salatchoum. Then, magic happened.FIU defeated defending champion Western Kentucky in Huntsville on Tuesday night, driven by strong defensive play. The Panthers held WKU to 35.9% shooting, including 1-for-18 from three-point range. Jayden Brewer and Asim Jones led FIU with 17 points each, while Ashton Williamson added 11 points.FIU advanced to the second round of the tournament, where they will face Jacksonville State for the third time this season tonight at 9 PM. Can they keep the magic going?
