The FIU baseball team faced the Florida Atlantic Owls in a three-game series that began on Friday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m.
The 11-3 Panthers were looking to get back to winning form after dropping their last game against Miami at LoanDepot Park, 7-3.
Ultimately, the series did not go FIU’s way. They dropped two out of three games, including a tight 6-5 loss on Saturday.
The Panthers played their first and third games at FIU, while the second game of the series took place in Boca Raton.
The Owls entered the series following a 4-2 loss to the No. 7 Florida Gators. The projected starter for the Owls, Trey Beard, had recorded double-digit strikeouts in each of his first three starts.

Florida Atlantic (12-3) struck first in the opening inning. Marshall Lipsey led off with a single and later scored on a chopper through the left side of the infield by Jake Millan. FIU (12-5) responded in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run.
The Panthers’ offense had been rolling. Before the weekend, they ranked 18th in the nation with a .303 team batting average and 118 hits. They had also scored 122 runs, placing them 21st in the nation.

All of FIU’s (12-5) runs came via home runs, with Brylan West leading the charge with a multi-homer game. Kishon Frett and Andrew Ildefonso also went deep to contribute to the Panthers’ offense.
Redshirt senior Kishon Frett was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week last week. He hit .545 (12-for-22) with three home runs, a triple, eight runs, and six RBIs. He is currently batting .426 with a .541 on-base percentage.
Following this series, the Panthers will begin a nine-game home stretch, facing three different opponents: Florida Gulf Coast for one game, Bucknell for a four-game series, and Jacksonville State for three games.
