FIU’s women’s tennis team extended its winning streak to five with a 4-1 victory over Boston University on Tuesday afternoon at the PayCargo Tennis Center.
The Panthers (7-2) secured the win with four singles victories after dropping the doubles point to the Terriers (5-6). Valery Gynina clinched the match at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
In singles play, Oyinlomo Quadre evened the score at 1-1 with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2. Shortly after, Ekaterina Khairutinova secured a decisive 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Katerina Mandelikova added the Panthers’ third point with a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 4.
FIU dropped matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions, allowing BU to take an early 1-0 lead. However, Quadre and Mandelikova earned a hard-fought 7-6 victory at the No. 1 spot, though the doubles matches were played to completion.
Junior Ekaterina Khairutdinova has been on roll this year. She has been named Conference player of the week two times, doubles team of the week twice, alongside sophomore Valery Gynina, and also the athlete of the month for October.
The Panther will look to continue their win streak against the University of Pennsylvania on March 14 at home.
