With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, FIU’s Healthy Living Program took a dynamic approach to student safety by hosting its annual “Got Luck?” event on Mar. 13, 2025.

Held at the Graham Center Pit, the event transformed an important conversation about alcohol and drug awareness into an engaging experience. From trivia games to prize giveaways, students learned how to make informed decisions about substance use while still having fun.

Instead of a traditional lecture format, the event engaged students through questions and answers games, where their knowledge of substance safety was tested.

Attendees were encouraged to visit various informational stands, collecting signatures at each station before redeeming their prizes.

“We wanted to make this an interactive experience rather than just handing out information,” said Rachel Carson, Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) Coordinator.

To encourage full participation, students who completed all stations were able to collect prizes, including: “Krispy Kreme” donuts, tote bags and NightCap Drink Cover Scrunchies (to help prevent drink tampering.)

Multiple students appreciated the way the Healthy Living Program made learning about alcohol and drug risks more engaging and memorable.

As an annual event, “Got Luck?” has become a tradition at FIU, especially leading up to festive dates such as St. Patrick’s Day, when drinking and substance use rise. The Healthy Living Program continues to emphasize the importance of education and harm reduction, ensuring students have the resources they need to make safe choices.

“We want students to be aware of the risks and make informed decisions as adults,” said Carson.
