Are you ready to travel back in time?

The FIU Department of Theatre makes it possible for you to do so from Apr. 4- Apr. 13 at The Herbert & Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center.

The play goes back in time to New York in 1905 and follows Esther, an African American seamstress who makes luxury lingerie. It follows her struggles to make ends meet and to find love.

Relationships are never easy to manage, especially for a woman like Esther during this time period.

Emma Rose Fernandez, who is playing the role of Mrs.Van Buren, offered PantherNow more insight on what to expect at these showings.

“This play is juicy. You’ll also see some gorgeous costumes and incredible set pieces, like the period accurate sewing machine we brought in. I’m most looking forward to finally being able to show my family, friends, and the FIU community what we’ve been working so hard to create this past month. It’s such a beautiful story, and I hope it will impact others the way it has impacted me. ‘Intimate Apparel’ has themes that transcend time. It’s a story that touches everyone’s heart in one way or another.”

The story focuses on themes of human connection, racism, social status, and betrayal.

There is something for everyone to take away from viewing this play. Anyone is welcome, and it is $20 for general admission, $15 for seniors and faculty, and $10 for students with valid Panther ID.

All showings, except for the Sunday showings on Apr. 6 and Apr. 13, will take place at 8 p.m. Sunday showings will take place at 2 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite, and the FIU Department of Theatre hopes to share this wonderful experience that they have put endless hours into with a wide audience.
