As of April 11, 18 FIU students found their F-1 visas revoked. 11 students are currently enrolled and 7 are recent graduates receiving post-graduate vocational training according to Miami New Times. These actions are part of a larger trend of visa revokes across the country, with the federal government using AI to detect foreign students with what they deem are ‘pro-Hamas’ sympathies.

While it remains unknown what specific reasons were used for the decision making of the FIU students, there is a pattern with the nationwide cancellations. Traffic violations, protesting for Palestine, and related offenses are all commonalities.

Madeline Baró, director of media relations, confirmed to PantherNOW that the students had their visas removed between March 25 and April 10.

The FIU Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) hosted a lawn sit-in last year and has continued to protest over the Israel-Hamas war since its start on October 7th, 2023.

This is a developing story, more information will be provided with further updates.
