The FIU softball team is getting ready for its final test before the Conference USA Tournament.
The Panthers will hit the road to face the Liberty University Flames who are ranked first in the conference.
The three-game series will begin on May second in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The upcoming series serves FIU as an opportunity to gather speed before entering the postseason events.
During the second game of the series, the Panthers will celebrate the senior athletes even though the game will take place at an opposing stadium.
The team, together with the players’ families, will recognize Lindsey Burroughs, Brooke McCann, Jianna Simonet, Collier Peaden and Janelle Martinez during the career appreciation event.
FIU arrives at their weekend games in the top 10 national rankings for total stolen bases with 115 and 11th in stolen bases per game, both marks lead Conference USA.
Sophomore Kally Meredith ranks as a top performer in the nation through her stolen base skills.
The Panthers are also currently fourth in the conference ranking and 53rd in the national standing in fielding percentage at .970.
FIU has executed 17 double plays this season which stands as the second-highest total among CUSA teams.
Junior pitcher Kennedy Byrd has maintained the second-highest innings pitched in CUSA this season with 141 innings.
The Panthers will depend heavily on her performance to control Liberty’s offense throughout this series.
FIU looks to conclude the regular season strong and with increased self-assurance as they seek a coveted playoff qualification.
