FIU’s Presidential Search Committee has been working for the past few weeks to find FIU’s next president.
Although the search committee’s process remains secretive due to a 2022 bill passed by the Florida Legislature, Interim President Nuñez has been regarded as the front-runner from the start.
Weeks of identifying and interviewing possible presidential candidates means they are now ready to move on to the final phase of the process, which will take place publicly.
According to a statement from FIU, after careful review and discussion, the committee selected three finalists, which included a current president and another current provost at other institutions, as well as FIU’s current Interim President, Jeanette M. Nuñez.
According to a statement from FIU, two of the candidates made clear they would only go through in the public phase of the search process if they remained the only candidate.
Both candidates chose to withdraw from the process.
Resulting in the Committee to move forward with Interim President Nuñez as the only finalist for consideration in the search process by the FIU Board of Trustees.
The next and final step to the search process is taking place May 21st, 2025, where the university will host a series of open-forums at the Modesto M. Maidique Campus.
These open-forums will give the opportunity to current FIU students to interact directly with Interim President Nuñez, whether that be asking questions or sharing ideas.
The university will share the exact schedule for these open-forums within the upcoming days. You can visit the Presidential Search website for any upcoming updates.
Alongside the open-forums there are some surveys you can participate in designed to gather feedback on what qualities students believe are important for FIU’s future president should have, as well as general opinions on the direction of the University, you can participate in the survey here.
On Monday June 2nd, 2025, FIU’s Board of Trustees will meet at 9 a.m. for an on-campus interview with the candidate to speak on the feedback given by the students of the university through the forums and the survey.
This public meeting will take place at the Graham Center Ballrooms, MMC campus. The FIU Community can also join the meeting virtually via the University’s webcast.
