Panther baseball is heading to Huntsville, Texas to face Sam Houston this weekend to close out the regular season.

FIU showed some signs of life on the mound this past weekend against Liberty, despite losing the series.

The Panthers outscored the Flames 12-11 but dropped the series 2-1.

Despite FIU’s struggles, Pitcher Logan Runde went four innings and a third, racking up nine strikeouts and zero runs given up, having himself a great Senior Day.

The last game of the series went scoreless on both sides until the top of the eighth, when Liberty’s Landon Scilley hit an RBI single to make it 1-0.

That single was followed up by a 2-run shot from Nick Barone, securing Liberty’s 3-0 shutout and a series victory against the Panthers.

As a team, the Panthers rank fifth in the conference in hitting, averaging .276. They have also driven in 319 runs and have gotten on base a total of 780 times, both ranking fourth within the conference.

When it comes to individual play, Senior Brylan West is leading the team with a batting average of .345, 68 hits, 26 RBI and 10 total home runs.

Catcher Brendan Roney has thrown out 10 baserunners this season, ranking fifth in the conference. He also has three home runs and 11 RBI.

Freshman Bryce Turner has been in great form. In his last eight innings he has not allowed an earned run and has recorded nine strikeouts.

The Sam Houston Bearkats are having a tough 2025 season going 12-40 on the year, giving the Panthers the perfect opportunity to bounce back before the CUSA Conference Championship Tournament.

FIU needs to get it going in this final stretch as they look to make it to the postseason for the second consecutive year under head coach Rich Witten

To clinch a spot in the CUSA Championship, the Panthers need just one win or one loss from Middle Tennessee.

FIU enters the weekend with a 27-25 overall record, and a 10-13 mark in CUSA play, as they currently sit in sixth place in the standings.
