The FIU Board of Trustees is set to consider a proposal to increase fees for out-of-state students by 10 percent.
If approved, the hike will apply to undergraduate, graduate, and professional program students who are classified as out-of-state. However, the proposed increase will not affect out-of-state students enrolled in graduate self-supporting or market-rate tuition programs for Fall 2025.
In-state students will not be impacted by the proposal.
Out-of-state fees at FIU have remained unchanged for the past decade. University officials say the proposed increase is necessary to maintain the quality and competitiveness of academic offerings and student services amid rising operational costs.
When asked for comment, FIU’s Senior Director of Media Relations, Madeline Baró, stated, “As noted in a message to the university community, the board is scheduled to consider the proposal during a virtual meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, which can be viewed at webcast.fiu.edu.” Baró added that the Board of Trustees had forwarded the inquiry to her office.
