Former FIU wide receiver T.Y. Hilton becomes first football player to make it to the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
A Miami native who attended Miami Springs High School, Hilton played as a wide receiver and kick returner for the Panthers from 2008 to 2011. During his time at FIU he racked up a total of 3,531 receiving yards, had 24 touchdowns, and averaged 70.6 yards per game.
“Football is the game I loved. My teammates through my years at FIU hold bonds that will be forever kept, and being the first football player inducted into the Hall of Fame at a prestigious college gives the journey a forever meaning,” said Hilton after receiving the news from FIU Athletics Director Scott Carr.
By the time he left FIU he was the schools all time leader in several categories, including: career receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He also recorded single-game and single-season records for receptions and receiving yards.
Hilton earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors in all four of his seasons at FIU and was the Sun Belt Player of the Year in 2010.
He was named the MVP of the Little Caesars Bowl in 2010 when the Panthers defeated Toledo after scoring on a 89-yard kickoff return and a 10-yard touchdown reception.
After his time with the Panthers, Hilton was taken in the third round of the NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts.
He would go on to play for the team from 2012-2021. During that time he was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team, earned four consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 2014-2017, and was the NFL’s receiving leader with 1,448 yards in 2016.
