After four years of offering remote and hybrid work options, Florida International University is officially ending its flexible work arrangements for administrative and staff roles.
The remote work policy, introduced in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, allowed employees to work from home on a part-time or full-time basis. But in a memorandum issued by FIU Human Resources on Monday, June 9th, the university announced that all faculty and staff must return to full-time, on-campus work beginning Monday, August 11th.
FIU’s decision mirrors a growing national trend as universities and large employers across the country continue to roll back remote work policies in favor of traditional, in-person operations. The university has not indicated whether any exceptions will be granted or if a phased transition plan will be introduced.
