The Panthers will go up against Florida Atlantic on Sunday, in the first home game of the 2025 season.
The Panthers and The Owls have met each other 21 times prior. The most recent match ended with a Panthers victory 2-0 during the 2024 season, their first win against their state rivals since 2013.
FAU currently has a 0-2-1 record, recently losing to Miami 4 to 0.
The Panthers are also looking for their first win of the season as they currently hold a 0-1-1 record.
In their last game, FIU drew North Florida, 1-1.
The Ospreys opened the score in the 6th minute to make it 1-0.
As a response, The Panthers increased the pressure with senior Brealyn Viamille finishing the half with 2 shots on goal.
The Panthers’ efforts to find the equalizer paid off when a foul by The Ospreys inside the box, awarded The Panthers a penalty kick.
Chinatsu Kaio, the Japan-native senior, scored the penalty in the 50th minute making the score level at 1-1.
It was the first goal of FIU’s 2025 season and Kaio’s second career goal, with her first being in her sophomore season in 2023.
