The Panthers will continue to play at home against Stetson University at 4 pm on Thursday.
FIU will look to improve to a winning record after a 1-1-1 start to the season.
The team won their first game of the 2025 season 3 to 1, against state rivals, Florida Atlantic on Sunday.
After falling behind in the 13th minute, FIU looked to respond quickly. When a clearance made by FAU’s goalkeeper landed into the feet of Chinatsu Kaio, the Japan-native senior scored her second goal of the season, making it 1-1 in the 28th minute.
Just 5 minutes later, junior Montelene Dymond received a long ball from senior Grace Morris, and weaved through defenders to mark her first goal of the season and put FIU on top, 2 to 1.
Dymond continued to find holes in The Owls’ defense. In the 41st minute, she was able to sneak the ball past the goalkeeper to lengthen the lead 3-1.
In the second half, both teams held strong and neither could fully capitalize. At fulltime, Florida Atlantic finished with 9 shots (5 on goal), 2 saves, and 7 corner kicks. Meanwhile FIU finished with 10 shots (5 on goal), 4 saves, and 3 corner kicks.
Currently, Montelene Dymond and Chinatsu Kaio are tied on the tally sheet with 2 goals a piece, while Grace Morris and Valery Restrepo, junior goalkeeper, are tied with 1 assist each.
FIU’s next rivals, Stetson University, currently have a 2-1 record.
The Panthers and The Hatters have faced each other 14 times prior, with the most recent match resulting in a 1-0 defeat to The Hatters.
FIU has five games left before they begin facing conference opponents, with their first game against a CUSA rival coming on Sept. 21st against Delaware.
