Organizations at Florida International University offer plenty of opportunities for students to connect and collaborate each week. But with so many upcoming events, how do students take their pick?
Here’s what PantherNOW is looking out for in the next two weeks, so you can check them out too!
Tuesday, Sept. 16th, all students are invited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at MMC’s Graham Center Pit, with the promise of music, food, games, and giveaways. This Culture Fest is set to take place from 4 to 7 p.m. and is being hosted by the Centers for Student Engagement—including the Women’s, Men’s, and Pride centers—along with the Latin Student Union. Honor your own or a peer’s culture, and surround yourself with a vibrant community!
The Pride Student Union, in collaboration with the Latin Student Union and Latin American Dance Club, is hosting a presentation on queer Latin music and artists, with a special dance lesson to accompany the discussion. This Queer Latinidad Through Music meeting will take place in MMC’s Graham Center, room 355, on Sept. 17th from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Whether you stop by for the free food, dance class, or to learn about legacy, it’s a can’t-miss event this Hispanic Heritage Month.
Sing your heart out with Japan Club! The organization is hosting a Japanese Karaoke Night in MMC’s Graham Center’s room 118, the faculty club, on Sept. 17th. From 7 to 9 p.m., join the fun and make some friends, maybe even harmonies, while you sing!
Transfer students in the Honors College may want to keep an eye out for the Honors Week: Transfer Social on Sept. 18th from 2 to 4 p.m. Meet and bond with your fellow new students at FIU over board games and snacks at the Parkview Skydeck! The Honors College-hosted event will also hold an appearance by Dean Espinosa.
Spend your Friday night dancing at a Silent Disco in FIU! On Sept. 19th, from 6 to 8 p.m., the dance party is open to all active students and their families for free! The event will be located in MMC’s Graham Center Faculty Club and is being hosted by Orientation and Family Programs. Attendees must register in advance here, so claim your spot now!
