The FIU men’s soccer team looks to extend its momentum into the next match against the Missouri State Bears on Sunday, at 6 p.m., after winning their last two games.
The victories against Memphis and Florida Gulf Coast, mark the team’s first back-to-back wins of the season.
The Panthers opened their conference play with a 1-0 win on the road against the Memphis Tigers where midfielder David Boccuzzo scored his first goal for FIU.
The team followed it up with a win at home in a matchup against FGCU on Hispanic Heritage Night with a 2-0 victory.
These results give FIU a solid record (3-2-1, 1-0), heading into their second conference match of the season.
While the team had a rocky start in nonconference play, they now have the chance to build momentum. Freshman Johan Helan and Pasquale Capriati have each scored three goals this season to drive the offense.
Backed by Eduardo Mustre and Boccuzzo, who scored the game-winning shot against Memphis.
Facing an evenly matched team in their next game against the Bears, who have a solid 3-1-2 record, the Panthers aim to stretch their winning streak to three before facing state rivals Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton on Sept. 26.
The Panthers’ take on the Missouri State Bears is set for Sunday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. at Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium.
