The Panthers will face conference opponent Jacksonville State on Sunday at 12 p.m.
FIU currently has a 5-2-3 record and are 2-0 against conference opponents (first in CUSA standings.)
One of the wins comes from their most recent match against Kennesaw State, where The Panthers saw a 2-0 victory.
In the first half The Panthers set the tone with a consistent press. Despite the efforts from the likes of Hanako Fujii or Delfina Lombardi, the half remained scoreless.
As FIU continued the same intensity in the second half, junior Montelene Dymond was able to collect a bad pass from the goalkeeper, weave through a defender, and open up the score with a belter in the top corner in the 57th minute.
The Panthers soon doubled their lead when a cross into the box by junior Mona Gellert found the head of 2024 NAIA Player of the Year Jayden Boelter in the 66th minute.
With 25 minutes left, FIU’s backline stood strong. With the full-time whistle, this match marks their third clean sheet of the 2025 season.
After the 90 minutes, Kennesaw St. finished with 9 shots (5 on target), 3 saves, and 3 corner kicks. Meanwhile FIU finished with 14 shots (5 on target), 2 saves, and 1 corner kick.
With these goals Montelene Dymond scored her seventh of the season, and Jayden Boelter scored her third. Mona Gellert also recorded her first assist of the season.
The upcoming match against Jacksonville State, who currently have a 6-4-2 record and are 0-2 against conference opponents (eleventh in CUSA standings), will mark the third game against conference rivals for the Panthers this season.
Their last and only meeting ended in a 2-2 draw on Oct. 31, 2024.
Last season FIU finished with a 6-1-2 record and a 13-5-2 overall record to win the CUSA Tournament for the first time in program history.
Head coach Mat Dunn and his team hope to build off of these wins, as The Panthers come back home to face Liberty for a CUSA Tournament Final rematch at 1pm on Oct. 5th.
