Students and their families filled the Graham Center Ballrooms on Friday, Sept. 19th, for the Family Weekend Silent Disco at Florida International University’s Modesto Maidique Campus. The event gave Panthers a chance to dance, connect, and try something new in a lively, relaxed setting.

Guests could choose from three channels: hip hop and pop, Spanish hits, and intense techno beats, allowing everyone to create their own playlist for the night. A light-up dance floor added a visual element as participants moved to the beat, while a photobooth captured memories and a free dessert bar kept energy levels high.

“I wanted to meet new people and try something different,” said Hameedeh Gil, an 18-year-old freshman majoring in civil engineering. “I have never been to a silent disco before, but I like that I can pick the music that matches my mood. The hip hop and Spanish channels were definitely my favorite.”

For some students, the event was also a chance to experience FIU culture. “I wanted to experience the FIU culture and all the diverse people who go here,” said Jaden Saer, an 18-year-old biology major. “The blue channel had some good Y2K classics. So fun to dance to.”

Parents joined in on the fun as well. “I love to dance and wanted to spend time with family,” said Lipa, a 37-year-old parent. “You can enjoy the music and still have a personable conversation whenever you want.”

From salsa spins on the red channel to sing-alongs on the blue, the silent disco brought together students, families and Panther spirit for a night of music, dancing and community.
