FIU will travel to East Hartford, Conn, for a matchup against UConn on Saturday, Oct. 4, in what will be the second time the Panthers face the Huskies in program history.
The series record is tied 1-1 with FIU defeating UConn 24-17 the last time these two teams faced each other in 2023.
Panther Football will play its last game against a non-conference opponent before turning their attention exclusively to CUSA rivals.
In a press conference before the game, head coach Willie Simmons expressed the importance of winning on the road. “You have to be prepared to take on all the challenges of an away game,” he added “Great teams know how to find a way to win on the road and this team in the early stages of our growth as a program, that is one of the things we have to master.”
This will be the Panthers second road game of the season following a defeat to #2 Penn State on week 2.
Redshirt junior wide receiver Alex Perry talked about the team’s performance during the course of the season. “The season has been going not as quiet as perfect as we thought it would go but not as bad as it could have gone. One game got away from us and the other game we played the number two team in the country.”
After the matchup against UConn, FIU will have seven games remaining on the season, including four games away from home.
With a 2-2 record this season, the Panthers will look to improve on last year where they finished 4-8 and go for their first winning season since 2019.
The only conference game so far this season for FIU was a defeat against Delaware at home.
The next home game for the Panthers will be on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m., when they face Kennesaw State on Vice Night.
