The Panthers will travel to Huntsville, Texas, to take on Sam Houston from the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum in back-to-back games.
The first matchup will be on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m., followed by a second game on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m.
Against the Bearkats, FIU has never lost a game, they are undefeated with a 5-0 record dating back to 2010. Sam Houston comes into the matchup with an 8-9 overall record and an 0-4 mark in conference play.
FIU (8-8, 2-2 CUSA) comes into the weekend following two consecutive losses at Kennesaw State from Oct. 3–4. Following these two defeats, FIU sits sixth in the CUSA standings through four conference games.
Senior libero Mandi Morioka has started all 16 matches and recorded a team-high 272 digs which ranks her third in the conference. Meanwhile, Senior Kira Givans leads the team offensively with a team-high 199 kills this season.
Following their first series win of the season against a Conference USA opponent when FIU defeated Missouri State in early September, Givans praised her team, “I think we have a lot of depth in this team, we have great practices and I think we all push each other so to be able to have that it all translates on the court.”
The Panthers will return home at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center for their next series against Delaware on Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday Oct. 18.
The team has already matched its win total from their previous season, but now they are looking to make it back into the CUSA Championship and earn a spot in the NCAA tournament.
