The FIU women’s soccer team returns home to face Sam Houston on Thursday, Oct. 16 at Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium.
This game will mark the beginning of the last three games of the regular season for the Panthers and they will all be played at home.
FIU currently sits sixth in the Conference USA standings with a 6-4-3 record overall and 3-2 against conference opponents.
In their last matchup, the 2-1 defeat at Middle Tennessee marked the second consecutive loss to a conference opponent after falling to Liberty at home by the same score.
Against the Blue Raiders, senior Brealyn Viamille scored her first goal of the season to give FIU the early lead in the game before two second half goals, both in the last 10 minutes of the game, by the home team gave FIU their third defeat of the season.

Despite the recent struggles, FIU still has a chance to make a run and repeat as conference champions. Currently in a tournament spot, the Panthers have three games remaining in the regular season to find stability and consistency in their game and to prepare for the Conference USA tournament that will begin on November 2, in Virginia.
Even with their recent struggles, FIU has still managed to produce some outstanding individual performances so far this season. Both Chinatsu Kaio and Jayden Boelter have earned offensive player of the week honors, while Junior goalkeeper Valery Restrepo has been named goalkeeper of the week one time.
Another player who has been having a breakout season, is forward Montelene Dymond. With seven goals so far, the junior has already surpassed her scoring total from the previous season and has been the Panthers main reference upfront.
Having guided Keiser to back-to-back NAIA National Championships in 2019 and 2020, first year head coach Mat Dunn is looking to have similar success with FIU as he looks to take the team back to the conference tournament and to the NCAA Tournament.
Last year the Panthers won the regular season, as well as the Conference tournament before losing to Auburn in the first round in the NCAA.
