After a victorious road swing, FIU Volleyball is back in the 305 and ready to defend the home court this weekend with a two-match series against Conference USA opponent Delaware.
The Panthers host the Fightin’ Blue Hens at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Friday and Saturday, with both teams looking to climb the league standings.
The Panthers, currently 10-8 overall and 4-2 in league play, are on a high streak after a successful two-match road stretch last weekend when they faced Sam Houston.
Senior Kira Givans is leading the FIU attack. She was named the CUSA Offensive Player of the Week following her performance during the Sam Houston series where she recorded 37 kills and nine service aces.
As a team, the Panthers are at the top of five statistical categories: hitting percentage (.220), assists (807), kills (874), service aces (123), and digs (980).
Friday’s match is set for 6 p.m. and will serve as FIU’s annual Dig Pink Game, part of a nationwide initiative to raise awareness and support for breast cancer research.
Saturday’s match begins at 1 p.m. and will feature the CUSA Green Game, spotlighting sustainability efforts across campus athletics.
This weekend marks the second and third all-time encounters between FIU and Delaware, and the first since the Fightin’ Blue Hens joined Conference USA at the start of this year.
Following this two-game series, FIU hits the road again, going up to Fort Myers, Florida, to take on the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m..
