Panthers look to extend win streak against state rivals

FIU will look to keep the momentum when they travel to Fort Myers to take on the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles at 6 p.m..

The Panthers currently hold a 12-8 record, as they have already doubled their wins from last season. They also have a 6-2 mark against Conference USA opponents. 

In their last matchup, The FIU faced Delaware in what turned out to be a successful weekend. 

The team coached by Cristina Robertson, got back-to-back wins, 3-0 in both matches against the Fightin’s Blue Hens at the Ocean Ban Convocation Center. With those two wins, the Panthers are on a four game winning streak.

The team also got their fifth and sixth sweeps of the year.

FIU has swept three of its four conference series, including clean 2-0 weekends against Missouri State, Sam Houston, and Delaware. 

Senior Kira Givans led the offense against Delaware with 12 kills and three blocks, continuing her consistent form in double-digit kills in six of her last seven matches.

Freshman Rebekah Pfefferkorn, another player to look out for, added 10 kills and four blocks, while Graduate student Sofie Vogel had a career-high, nine kills, and two service aces. 

Sophomore Jillian Huckabey contributed seven kills and six digs, and Senior Magda Stambrowska added five kills in the middle. 

With just four series left on the season, the Panthers are looking to keep the win streak going and finish the year strong before CUSA Championships begin on Nov. 21 at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
