On Friday, Oct. 31, the FIU kicked off the spooky festivities with a Halloween party at the Graham Center pit titled “Five Nights at Roary’s,” inspired by the popular horror game franchise “Five Nights at Freddy’s”.

The event played Halloween music to set the mood, followed by free pizza and a station where attendees could get their face paint done. However, the ultimate turnout was the costume contest.
With many people dressed up, some took the opportunity to sign up for the contest in wanting to show off their costumes and possibly win a prize.
Participants lined up and showed off their costumes to the judges, with unique outfits ranging in theme. Inspirations from anime such as One Piece and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, famous artists like Chappell Roan and KISS, and TV shows and movies of Marvel and Star Wars.

Judges deliberated for a few minutes before announcing the top 3 and an honorable mention. The honorable mention went to a couple who dressed up as Jake and the guard from Subway Surfers.
Third place went to a student who took the judges by surprise, first as a last-minute entry, then by posing as Freddy Fazbear from FNAF, pulling a flute from his pocket, and starting to play the game’s theme song.
Next up was second place, with a student winning dressed as Denji from the anime Chainsaw Man. And with a drum roll from the audience, first place was announced to a student dressed as Pyramid Head from the video game Silent Hill.
The 3rd place winner, Michael Cooley, who is a dual major in music performance and computer science, revealed whether the flute idea was planned or on the spot. “I had this idea for a minute because I wore this costume to Halloween Horror Nights, and I never got to do it, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to play.”
As the event came to a close, everyone gathered around for a group photo and continued celebrating together.
“We’re always trying to create new events for the students here”, said marketing lead Sabrina Brazela. She collaborated with Student Experience Roar Core to create a fun Halloween experience in hopes of keeping students engaged and involved.
