This year’s Halloween Bash on Oct. 30th, held at Parkview MPR, was an event that brought together eight different student organizations,  two of them being the Garden Club and Sustainable Sports. It was a night of community and fun. The event featured a pumpkin carving contest, karaoke, a costume contest, and plenty of free food,  all in the spirit of Halloween.

Among the crowd of costumes and carved pumpkins, one thing was clear: students were eager to show off their imagination. The pumpkin carving contest was a highlight of the night, as participants transformed ordinary pumpkins into detailed works of art. Students were making unique designs, and their creativity didn’t go unnoticed.

Kayla Amzand, a member of the Garden Club, explained that the Halloween Bash was all about fun and connection. “We tend to do different kinds of events, but this one was for fun,” She explained. The club hopes to make this an annual Halloween tradition.

The Garden Club also focuses on helping students “get their hands dirty” by growing plants and making the campus greener. Through workshops, garden projects, and a welcoming community, the club provides a space where FIU students can learn, connect, and nurture sustainability. Their main gardening site is located near the university’s Nature Preserve, where members plant a variety of crops and promote eco-friendly practices.

Another key collaborator at the Halloween Bash was the Sustainable Sports Club, whose mission is to reduce the environmental impact of sporting events. The club’s president, Imara-Bella Thorpe, explained that their goal is to “reduce and divert waste” from athletic activities and events, encouraging students to think about how sustainability and sports can go hand in hand.

Together, these organizations, along with several others that participated, created an event that balanced Halloween fun with environmental awareness. From creative pumpkins to clever costumes, the Halloween Bash showcased FIU students’ spirit of community, sustainability, and festive joy.
