At the beginning of the event, Rachel Martinez gave a demonstration on how to use the wax carving pencil. Club members have gathered around to observe. Then there’s a close-up of Rachel working on the model’s jaw. She has the wax melt placed above the jaw with missing teeth and is scraping wax down with the heated pencil.


Abdul Aziz Mohammed is carving soap with an exacto knife. There’s a paper beneath to catch the soap shavings. Abdul has begun his piece. He holds up the soap, showing he’s scored the sides of it. This exercise helps students build up dexterity and muscle memory.

Melanie Barzaga Hernandez has begun working with wax melts, a model jaw and a wax carving pencil. Melanie uses her left hand for stability while working on the teeth. In this photo, she is using an exacto knife to shape the wax teeth.


Nahama Antoine is referencing a model jaw for her soap carving. She has mapped out her design on the soap using the exacto knife. Nahama holds the bar of soap in her right hand while carving into it.

Frida Carbajal shows off the model jaw she’s working on, displaying the teeth she’s filled in with wax. She cups the jaw in her off hand and rests the wax carving pencil in the other.


Khans Hieu Truong examines her work on her model jaw using the wax carving pencil to adjust the teeth. Khans holds the jaw in her off hand while propping her pinky on the jaw for support and precision. In the second image, he’s taken a moment to present it to the camera.


Alba Jacome (left) and Kimberly Garateix (right) are presenting their practice jaws with filled-in teeth. They hold both jaws to create a complete set of teeth.
