Swimming & diving team named scholar All-American team

The FIU swim & diving team was named a Scholar All-America team for the 2025 fall semester by The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA).

To earn this distinction, teams must have a 3.0 GPA or higher. The squad had five perfect 4.0 GPAs and 11 over 3.6 for an overall GPA of 3.65 in the semester.

Head coach Randy Horner has been with the team for 16 seasons and in that time, his team has earned Scholar All-America team honors every year.

Just days after receiving this honor, FIU hosted Florida Atlantic University in what was their last home meeting of the season. Despite the team’s efforts, the Panthers lost 

121 – 178. FIU recorded 19 top-three finishes, including three first-place performances.

Junior Diana Santamaria won first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (55.36) while Pauline Zeller earned first in the 100-yard butterfly (54.88). 

The team also honored their seven seniors for their contributions to the program. The team members who were honored were Lutnya Bogdanova, Oumy Diop, Var Erlingsdottir Eidesgaard, Nicole Frank, Ruska Lehtonen, Ana Luiza Daisson and Maria Goncalves.

The team will get their chance to revert their result against FAU when FIU travels to Fort Lauderdale to face the Owls on Friday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m..

Following their matchup against Florida Atlantic, the Panthers will go to Coral Gables to participate in the First Chance Meet hosted by the University of Miami.
After that, the American Swimming & Diving Championship will begin on Feb. 18 and it will take place in Greensboro, N.C..
