FIU GameHERs hosted their Cozy Game Night on Friday, Jan 23, at the GC 140 auditorium, offering games, community and good vibes.
The event lasted from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and showcased a Nintendo Switch that housed a multitude of games, including Smash Bros., Just Dance 2020, Mario Kart and Nintendo Switch Sports. Students of all kinds, no matter their preferred play style, were all allowed to come and enjoy a cozy night of fun.

FIU GameHERs was founded in 2024, promising to garnish a diverse community for all game lovers. The club’s name may seem like it’s only for women, but that’s completely false. All are welcome to come and find other gamers, new friends, and a supportive atmosphere.
At the event, a member of the GameHERs Social Media team, Sophomore Angelina Francois, was going around getting photos and videos for her club. She provided a lot of insight on the overall vibe of how these events usually go.
“I mean, people had fun. We set up Just Dance so that people can vibe and dance, and we also played a bit of Smash Bros. We also had a bracelet station and some pizza that everyone may enjoy,” Francois explains.

Many students participated in the various different games and having a fun time. Games such as Super Smash Bros and Pokémon sparked a lot of conversation and created a fun atmosphere. Many also enjoyed slices of pizza while gaming.
Many conversations took place over the shared love for gaming, more specifically, thoughts on some games. For example, on Just Dance 2020, many talked about how this new version of the game isn’t inherently bad, considering the great songs and dance visuals.
Though some of them had agreed on the fact that the background visuals in the newer versions of the game series can get a bit distracting or overstimulating, making it hard to focus on some of the dancing moves.
Lots of insightful conversations were had that night.

The event itself was an awesome way to meet many new people. One such student was Environmental Science Senior Zachary Schwartz. Schwartz is a very big game enthusiast. He spoke about new secret details on game franchises like Pokémon and Monster Hunter.
In the older games of Monster Hunter, they didn’t have G-rank monsters (monsters that are super hard to fight) or at least they weren’t named that. Instead, they were just called ‘hyper’ monsters. These fun facts were very interesting, since they may not be common knowledge to the Monster Hunter community
He also described his thoughts on the event as a whole. “I went to the event expecting to hang out for a little bit, and I wound up having a great time. The atmosphere is really nice, and everything just felt friendly and fun,” Schwartz said.

“I think that’s pretty much the mission of GameHERs. To make people feel welcome and play games so that everyone can be happy,” Francois said.
GameHERs serves as a safe space for gamers alike, no matter who you are. Supporting and building friendships over our love for gaming and great company.
