Students combine creativity with community service

Florida International University students recently took part in a hands-on volunteer event focused on making toys for dogs, combining creativity with community service.

The event was organized by the Volunteer Action Club (VAC), a student-led organization dedicated to service and civic engagement. The club is led by Gabriela Rodriguez, a Biology major at FIU.

During the event, students worked together to create safe handmade toys for dogs using simple materials. The activity gave participants a chance to support animal welfare while connecting with other students who are interested in volunteering.

Rodriguez said the goal of the club is to encourage students to get involved in service-based activities and make a positive impact through small but meaningful actions.

Building community on campus

Events like this reflect VAC’s broader mission to promote community involvement and social responsibility among FIU students. By hosting accessible and engaging volunteer opportunities, the club continues to help students give back while building a sense of community on campus.
