Can your cult survive the blizzards of Woolhaven? Massive Monster presents its players with a chilling new challenge for their cults.
On January 22, the developer team, Massive Monster, released their new DLC for their game, Cult of the Lamb, called Woolhaven. Bringing a new level of difficulty to players by challenging their preparation and strategy skills to help survive the cold winters of the goddess Ygnya.

Cult of the Lamb is a cultivation game that allows the player to build a cult following while taking revenge against the Bishops of the Old Faith for executing lamb-kind.
Narinder, the fifth bishop whom the other bishops sealed away, presents us with a deal to free him, but in turn allows us to use his magic crown as our new power.
With his crown and follower Ratau as our guide, he gives us the power to build our following from the ground up. There’s plenty to do to nourish your cult to fruition, like going on excursions for resources, farming, refining materials, cooking, partying and so much more.
During excursions, you’ll also meet creatures of all kinds along the way that aid your journey to become the one true leader. Vendors like Clauneck, the tarot card reader, Helob, the follower merchant, Forneus, the gift merchant, or even Chemach, the curse bearer, will aid you with extra firepower against fighting the four bishops and their minion followers.
I’d find myself trying to balance keeping my followers alive and going to get resources. The game has 3 factors to keep track of, which are faith, cleanliness and hunger. If these drain too far, then it can cause your followers to dissent and actually leave your cult.

In Woolhaven, you hear a call through the snowstorm for help, leading you to a shrine on the mountain top. There, you meet the lamb Goddess Ygnya, and she states that winter is coming. She tasks you to free her old lamb spirit followers and free her from her curse. Trekking through Ewefall Mountain will lead to countless, yet highly dangerous excursions.
Meeting many new allies and enemies in the two new locations: Ewefall Heights and The Rot. Along with encountering the Free Pack Leader, Marchosias. Who rules over the wolf enemies you fight and the technology you find in Ewefall Heights?
We’re also told to help rebuild the Home of the Lambs. Different ways we can do this are by collecting refined materials to fix up old wrecks of the lamb spirits’ homes, stores, farms and the Ygnya Statue.

Slowly, we start learning of the new spreading plague throughout the mountain called The Rot. It started appearing after Ygnya fell, with the inside of the mountain becoming this rotten, infested volcano. Full of lava and demonic living corpses lurking around waiting to ambush you.
The area is covered in rotting flesh, cages with organic rotting matter, skeletons, tentacles, lava pools and parasites alike. From the lore tablets in-game, it’s assumed these animated corpses were once the lambs that used to roam the mountain.
Often, before going exploring for resources, I gather up followers and power-ups before going into the excursions because fighting through them can be extremely difficult if underprepared. Especially, in an extremely high-risk but high-reward run.

This game is genuinely one of the best 2D games I’ve ever played. Filled with action, survival, and story.
We share the burden of the lamb as we build a new family for them. Well, at least that’s how I see it, considering when I play, I’m usually a “pacifist” leader and more so into efficiency.
How will you rule your sanctuary?
