The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) has implemented the MetroConnect service that went into effect Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026. The service will transition to weekday-only operations and introduce a per-trip fare.
MetroConnect, formerly known as GoConnect, which launched in 2020 to cover gaps in bus service, is a publicly funded rideshare service and demand-responsive transit system operating in several areas in Miami-Dade County.
While not a door-to-door service, MetroConnect has made it accessible to access Miami-Dade Transit stations or nearby destinations within the service area.
According to the official report, the service, which was previously free, will now operate only from Monday to Friday. It will be available from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will not operate on weekends.
The standard MetroConnect fare will now be $3.75 per trip, payable at the time of booking through the MetroConnect mobile app.
A discounted fare of $1.50 will apply to any MetroConnect trip that starts or ends at an eligible transit hub (connecting with Metrorail, Metrobus, and TransitWay).
For riders who used MetroConnect to reach FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus, service is no longer available in the Waterford Business District in the Blue Lagoon neighborhood, and the Civic Center zone around the Jackson Health hospital complex, meaning riders must rely on regular bus or trolley services instead.
A county memo says some MetroConnect service areas were cut because they had low ridership or duplicated nearby fixed‑route service.
Miami-Dade Transit routes 8 and 11, which connect FIU to Brickell and Downtown Miami, continue to operate on both weekdays and weekends, along with routes 24, 75, 107, and 135.
Students traveling to these zone areas will continue to have access to multiple transit options provided by Miami-Dade Transit, Broward County Transit service, and municipal trolley services, including the City of Miami Trolley and City of Doral Trolley, throughout the weekdays and weekends.
