FIU’s (7-14, CUSA 0-3) losing streak stretched to nine games following a frustrating conference series loss to Western Kentucky (12-8, CUSA 3-0).
The Panthers return home to host the University of Miami (14-6, ACC 2-4) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at FIU Baseball Stadium.
The last time these programs met, FIU came up short, losing 10–6. Although they trail in the all-time series, the Panthers aim to take down a powerhouse program and spark new life into their season.
Against the Hilltoppers, FIU struggled on the mound, allowing 29 runs compared to their 11. In Game 1, Luca Reyes provided a highlight with a solo home run to left field in the second inning. The game was called after seven innings. Preston Prince took the loss, allowing five runs while recording two strikeouts over two innings of work.

The second game was a closer contest, with FIU holding the Hilltoppers to four runs. In the fifth inning, Cooper Rasmussen lined a two-run homer to right field, marking his third of the season. George Adams got the start on the mound, recording two strikeouts while allowing two runs over three innings of work. However, it was not enough as FIU fell 4–3, with Enrique Sierra absorbing the loss.
Game 3 followed a similar trend, with the Panthers falling 9–3 to wrap up their road trip to Kentucky. FIU’s struggles on the mound continue to be a concern as the team prepares to face the Miami Hurricanes. The Panthers need to adjust if they hope to compete with a top-tier program like Miami.
Following their Wednesday night matchup, FIU hosts Sam Houston this weekend for another key conference series. The Panthers will need to gain control in conference play if they want to make a deep run in the Conference USA Championship and earn a chance at the College World Series. The Conference USA Baseball Tournament will be held in Kennesaw, Georgia, from May 20–24.
