With the conference tournaments just wrapping up this past weekend, there’s already been a surplus of drama with impossible shots, buzzer beaters and even game winners.
The Panthers took their 11-5 record on the road for the first time all season, and a short trip took them to Gainesville as they were set to be competing in the UF invitational, hosted by the University of Florida.
Turtle Thomas didn’t hang his head too low after the series finale, as he told student media that Loyola Marymount “can execute better than any team we’ll play all year”.
“I saw fierceness and a lot of heart [today]. Yesterday, I saw a lot of fear, and that gets you nowhere,” said Head Coach Rita Buck-Crockett.
“It’s college basketball. You go into it, prepare and both teams battle. It was a one-point game last time and they hit a shot to win it this time,” said Head Coach Anthony Evans.
The Panthers (9-1) defeated Conference USA rival Marshall, 4-3, Friday, March 4, and beat Virginia Commonwealth University, 6-1, Saturday, March 5.
After finishing 5-7 last season and being one game short of bowl eligibility, FIU will come to this season with a lot of questions about the returning players going into spring practice.
