“Roar to the Poll” tackles voter literacy on its first day

With a goal to register at least 5,000 students, the Student Government Association at FIU hosted its first “Roar to the Polls” event on Wednesday, Aug. 31 to discuss voter literacy. SGC-MMC began this initiative, with hopes of attracting Panthers to get registered and vote on Election Day; the first day of the three-day event took place in GC 243 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.




FIU receives recognition as a “great college to work for”

One of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country, The Chronicle of Higher Education recognizes colleges and universities that earn top ratings from their employees on workforce practices and policies. Among these universities, FIU was honored as one of only 68 four-year institutions that achieved the “Great Colleges to Work For” recognition.


Donald Trump races Hillary Clinton to the White House

The Republican Convention, which took place in Cleveland, Ohio between July 18-21, initiated one of the first steps in beginning the long race to the White House this coming November. With the Democratic National Convention taking place on Monday, July 25, both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are fighting for the hearts and minds of the American electorate.




FIU community gathers to overcome recent tragedies

Due to recent events involving police officers, the FIU community came together to reflect on the escalation of tragedies taking place all around the world. FIU gathered to reflect on the significant horrors taking place in Turkey and Bangladesh, and also the systemic issues concerning police brutality and violence here in the United States.


SGC-MMC talks plans for upcoming year

The Student Government Association at the Modesto Maidique Campus has started the summer semester by conducting bi-weekly meetings and have already begun confirming the cabinet. Showcasing its diversity and ingenuity, President Alian Collazo shared his hopes for the newly appointed and elected team.
