The Panthers (17-3) lost to No. 45 Rice University in the championship match of the C-USA tournament, 4-1, on Sunday, April 24.
The Panthers’ 15-2 record is the best since 2009, when the team finished with a 20-9 overall record. The team’s .882 winning percentage is the second-best in school history, only trailing the 2000-2001 team’s .885 winning percentage.
Saturday’s win over the Knights improved the Panthers’ away record to a perfect 8-0. The Panthers improved to 4-2 when losing the doubles point and remain undefeated when winning the first point.
Orlando finished off the match with a comeback win in the final set over Stearns. The senior came back from a one-set deficit and won in a tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (3), giving the Panthers a 5-2 win over the Bears.
However, to say we live in an equal sports society isn’t true. And some of it’s roots are in the way we speak.
“Breaking the school record doesn’t feel like anything,” said head coach Katarina Petrovic after the match against the Miners. “I’ve been waiting for this to happen since last year. This is the best team I’ve ever coached and we have the right people around this team to make it as successful as we’ve been this season.”
The Panthers (9-1) defeated Conference USA rival Marshall, 4-3, Friday, March 4, and beat Virginia Commonwealth University, 6-1, Saturday, March 5.
