Bethancourt is a native of Guatemala and attended Colegio Interamericano prior to FIU. There she lettered in volleyball for three years and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player in 2013. At 5 foot 9, she is the shortest player on the Panthers; however, she has not let her height affect her style of play.
Coming off its worst season in program history in 2014 when the team finished 7-23, the Panthers bounced back and proved to critics that last season was a fluke.
The Florida International University women’s volleyball team (15-13) ended its season on Friday, Nov. 20, losing to the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament in San Antonio, Texas.
The Panthers are set to face off against the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners, who enter as the second seed. The tournament will take place in San Antonio and begins on Friday, Nov. 20, at 12 p.m.
Winning at home and losing on the road has been a common theme for the women’s volleyball team throughout the season. In order for the Panthers to climb in the Conference USA standings, they would have to improve on their 1-3 conference record away from home.
