Minutes before FIU began their 2012 season against the No. 18 Florida Gators, the Panthers learned devastating news: FIU’s star hitter, Jovana Bjelica, suffered a broken bone in her right hand. The All Sun Belt hitter will be out for 4-6 weeks.
The Golden Panthers’ women’s swimming and diving team opened up the 2011-2012 season at home with a 68-44 defeat at the Bay Vista Aquatics Complex to Florida Gulf Coast University on Sept. 30. The dual meet was ended early due to rain and lightning in the area. Both teams were only able to complete six events before the meet was called.
After a heart breaking loss at the hands of UMKC on Sept. 2, the Golden Panthers look to go back to their winning ways after facing off against a 4-2-0 Florida Gulf Coast University club at home.
