Panthers sweep all 14 events to capture FIU Invitational

When it comes to sports, there is nothing quite better than a sweep. The Golden Panthers swimming and diving team wrapped up a strong outing by winning all 14 events that they participated in at the FIU Invitational on Jan. 7. FIU defeated the College of St. Rose and Florida Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at Biscayne Bay Campus.

Golden Panthers defeated in weather-shortened opener

The Golden Panthers’ women’s swimming and diving team opened up the 2011-2012 season at home with a 68-44 defeat at the Bay Vista Aquatics Complex to Florida Gulf Coast University on Sept. 30. The dual meet was ended early due to rain and lightning in the area. Both teams were only able to complete six events before the meet was called.

Florida Gulf Coast downs FIU in home meet

In Saturday’s meet, the Golden Panthers would fall to Florida Gulf Coast by a score of 178 to 75. After the meet, Coach Randy Horner gave his assessment of his team’s effort.
