The Latin American and Caribbean Center is celebrating its 35th anniversary with Peru’s former president Alan Garcia who will sign an agreement with President Mark B. Rosenberg to open up student exchange and study abroad programs between a Peruvian university and FIU.
Every year, a memorial is given to honor calypso-playing Eric Williams’ life and contributions to Caribbean politics and history.
This year’s event will take place Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the School of International and Public Affairs in room 125.
Whether peaceful or violent, civic displays of objection surfaced globally in the past year as protesters brought their causes to the public eye. Local displays such as Occupy FIU are bringing a national sense of protest to FIU’s campus.
While many students and faculty have received a first-time welcome to the University, one former student received a welcome back – and in a big way.
