In celebration of competitive activities at the Biscayne Bay Campus’ Wellness and Recreation Center, the City Bikes Biscayne Bay Triathlon will be hosting their fifth annual triathlon event at FIU’s BBC. FIU students and other community participants will be able to engage in a sprint distance race consisting of a 500-meter swim, 10-mile bike, 2.8-mile run.
The event, a sort of mock triathlon allowed participants to swim, bike and run trail distances in order to simulate the experience of a real triathlon, with the training and assistance of coaches.
“It is an event each term that welcomes new students for Summer B and a welcome back for current students so that they can get involved,” said Kaytien Franco, marketing assistant for BBC Campus life.
A getaway from final exam studies, the Biscayne Bay Campus Life will host a “rave” midnight breakfast in the BBC Panther Square Monday, April 27 from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Panther Power, an organization that focuses on student involvement in athletic school pride, is making sure that the Biscayne Bay Campus is full of school spirit, too.
To raise awareness on societal issues, students will embark on a journey through a “Tunnel of Oppression,” an interactive exhibit hosted by the BBC Student Programming Council.
To honor the Cuban national hero, José Martí, the University will host a 15th Annual José Martí Breakfast the day of the martyr’s birthday, Wednesday, Jan. 28 at the Biscayne Bay Campus.
