Projected to officially launch in Fall 2012, MyMajor is a program which matches students’ goals and interests with potential majors. Furthermore, MyMajor offers students academic advising and planning. Students also gain acceptance into the school of their interest, complete with a plan the day they enter the University.
This solution is problematic for several reasons: it burdens departments, deflects responsibility, and does not encourage accountability for ensuring this mistake does not happen again. Furthermore, having the departments revamp and modify their already existing budget to compensate for an overestimation is not a solution; it is a passing of the buck and a passing of the responsibility to compensate and be accountable for their mistake.
The Beacon feels that there should be fundamental changes to The New York Times Readership program; it is a service that not all students benefit from but that all students pay for.
