The proposed Board of Governors’ Performance Funding Model was approved by the state legislature with more funding than originally requested and some modifications as a result.
Higher education was given much attention during this years’ Florida Legislative Session, according to President Mark B. Rosenberg.
As the session came to a close on Friday, May 2, the legislature furthered the cause of undocumented students, the Board of Governor’s new funding model and granted the University more funding for expansion initiatives, maintenance and other programs.
The Board of Governors released final funding recommendations to the Florida Legislature based on its performance model: FIU ranked in the top three and is eligible for $7,268,298 in new funding, according to a Feb. 14 memorandum from President Mark B. Rosenberg.
Rosenberg said the University is going to be okay under the new performance funding model. But he wants to be better than okay — he wants all the money the University can get.
President Mark B. Rosenberg remained optimistic about University partnerships and improving under the Board of Governors’ performance funding model on Monday at the Biscayne Bay Campus town hall meeting where he also addressed the need for more parking and extended dining hours.
Gov. Scott is lobbying for universities to cut tuition rates by the same percentage to prevent tuition hikes for students, but University officials said the revenue is needed to compensate for losses generated by the downturn in the economy and state budget cuts.
