As soon as you walked out onto the intramural football fields on Sept. 24, you could feel the “electricity” in the air as coach Christopher Mendez stated in his pre-game speech to the Sigma Alpha Mu team.
When you hear the term “frat boy,” a lot of stereotypes come to mind. But Javier Sevilla, junior biomedical engineering major and Pi Kappa Phi member, has sought to change that perception through his involvement in his fraternity. Pi Kappa Phi gave Sevilla a chance to ride his bike across the country last summer going through 13 states and over 50 cities, and all for a very good cause. Journey of Hope, as the bike ride was called, is one of three events that an organization by the name of Push America organizes.
For many college students, “being Greek” is more than just letters and going to parties. It is the opportunity to be part of an organization that helps make lasting friendships, builds character, and defines your individuality. It is a support system created to ease the transition from adolescence to young adulthood.
Delta Phi Epsilon’s male pageant event Campus Man is set to make its mark for philanthropy on February 6. As part of a long-standing tradition of many of the FIU Panhellenic sororities, grand philanthropy events raise thousands of dollars for various charity foundations and philanthropic endeavors. Keeping with their ideals of dedication, pride and excellence, the women of Delta Phi Epsilon are daring the FIU community to watch the throne this week as they pass the crown down to the new reigning Campus Man 2012.
With a total number of 35 initiates, Theta Chi Fraternity is the newest member to the Interfratenity Council and Greek life at the University.
The National Pan-Hellenic Council, which houses eight out of the nine historically black sororities and fraternities, is hosting their annual week to promote their council from Sept. 5 to Sept. 11.
